Summary of Role

The ICR is establishing a new Centre that will accelerate research into drug discovery using targeted protein degradation. Based within the ICR Division of Cancer Therapeutics, the Centre’s scientists will apply a wide range of protein degradation technologies to benefit fundamental discovery science and translational research across the ICR. We are looking for a computational chemist who will work within a multi-disciplinary team to design PROTACs and molecular glues that are capable of selectively degrading specific proteins of interest in an oncology setting.

As a Postdoctoral Training Fellow in Computational Chemistry you will be required to apply a range of different computational techniques to study the interactions of small molecules with their target proteins and assess the ability to form ternary complexes with an appropriate E3 ligase. You will be expected to communicate your findings with colleagues with the aim of guiding the medicinal chemistry efforts within a number of different projects.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate must have PhD in computational chemistry, or a related field and have wide-ranging experience in the use of computational chemistry methods.

The ICR has a workforce agreement stating that Postdoctoral Training Fellows can only be employed for up  to 7 years as PDTF at the ICR, providing total postdoctoral experience (including previous employment at this level elsewhere) does not exceed 10 years

Division Information:

Division of Cancer Therapeutics

The Cancer Therapeutics Unit is a major component of the Division of Cancer Therapeutics and is a multidisciplinary 'bench to bedside' centre, comprising approximately 160 chemistry and biology scientists dedicated to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. We implement innovative drug discovery technologies, discover novel mechanism-based drugs, and develop these as rapidly as possible from the laboratory through to hypothesis-testing early clinical trials. These activities are carried out in highly focused multi-disciplinary project teams analogous to those in a biotechnology company, with patient benefit as the primary driver.

We encourage all applicants to access the job pack attached for more detailed information regarding this role. For an informal discussion regarding the role, please contact Dr Gary Newton via Email on gary.newton@icr.ac.uk
