We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, with strong technical skills, an undergraduate (or higher) science degree, and an excellent standard of written and spoken English.
The post-holder will be the in-house owner of our student-facing technologies -- including our student recruitment system, virtual learning environment, and several bespoke e-learning websites. They will work with colleagues to maximise their use, and will join national user groups to represent the ICR's interests. At times, it will be necessary to develop a technical specification for external or internal developers, and the post-holder will coordinate in-house testing of new functionality.
The role is not purely technical, and the successful candidate must also be a skilled communicator. They will write clearly and concisely and will provide advice and assistance with branding and tone of voice in education-related documents. They will also lead on the development of in-house scientific e-learning content.
This is a varied role, and the successful candidate will lead initiatives that enhance the quality of the teaching that we deliver. Applicants should have a good undergraduate or higher science degree (ideally in the biological sciences), with some research experience (which may have been gained through a masters or undergraduate project). We are seeking someone who can provide examples of successfully managing and completing several complex projects in parallel. The post-holder will work with both scientific and corporate teams across The Institute of Cancer Research.
Key projects anticipated in the near future include:
- Investigating approaches to hybrid teaching, to make the most of in-person seminars whilst offering flexibility to those who cannot travel;
- Creating a new module for our cancer science training website, using a story-based approach to introduce new PhD students to the lifecycle of a cancer science discovery;
- Working closely with colleagues to find opportunities to continuously improve our processes;
- Keeping pace with developments in generative AI, identifying and exploiting opportunities for its use in both administration and education;
- Supporting the development of new taught courses that make the most of our new teaching facility.
In your application, please explain carefully how your experience matches the essential requirements of the person specification. For shortlisted candidates, a choice of interview times will be available in Sutton on Monday 23rd October or in Chelsea on Tuesday 24th October.
