Job Details

As Engagement Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of activities to promote collaboration between researchers in the ICR and Imperial College, as well as organising public and patient engagement events. This will include internally facing communications and high-quality face-to-face networking meetings, such as thematic steering groups, workshops, hackathons and showcasing events and external facing such as festivals, exhibitions, talks and displays. In addition, you will support the content generation and updating of the Centre webpages and promotion of funding opportunities.

Key Requirements

To support the design and delivery of high-quality scientific events, you will be exposed to a broad range of scientific areas and will need to maintain a working understanding of the application of engineering and physical sciences to cancer research. You will have experience of organising scientific and public events and will be expected to develop facilitation skills to lead on events in the future.

High-quality copy writing and editing skills will also be required to deliver website and communications content. This new role, working in the best interests of both institutions to support the Centre, is crucial to ensure that the ambitious plans for convergence cancer research are realised.

For a list of all key requirements for this role please see the attached job description.

Department/Directorate Information

The Cancer Research UK Convergence Science Centre was established as a strategic partnership between the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and Imperial College London.

The mission of the Centre is to bring together engineering, physical sciences, life sciences and medicine to develop innovative ways to address challenges in cancer research to benefit cancer patients. This is achieved through multidisciplinary collaborations that integrate otherwise distinct approaches to co-create new tools, technologies and methodologies. The Centre is underpinned by a Major Centre award from Cancer Research UK, which provides the funding to create step changes in cancer research to address unmet medical needs in all cancers, particularly those that are hard to treat.

Directed by Professor Axel Behrens, the Convergence Science Centre brings together two of the UK’s leading academic research organisations to create a closely integrated and sustainable partnership. ICR’s vision (to ‘make the discoveries that defeat cancer’) and Imperial’s (‘to achieve enduring excellence in research and education in science, engineering, medicine and business for the benefit of society’) are highly complementary – a key factor that underpins our powerful and synergistic strategic alliance. With a remit to work across the entirety of both the ICR and Imperial, the Centre will foster new opportunities for collaboration between researchers at the two institutions and support the clinical translation of novel cancer technologies and therapeutics.

We encourage all applicants to access the job pack attached for more detailed information regarding this role. For an informal discussion regarding the role, please contact Arnaud Legrand via [email protected].
