About the Role

We are seeking a Sustainability Facilitator to join the Sustainability, Health & Safety Team and contribute to integrate sustainability into all ICR activities and to support the ICR objectives in the Sustainable Discoveries Action Plan. The successful candidate will play a key role in reducing the ICR's carbon footprint and achieving Net Zero though, further implementing the Sustainable Discoveries Action Plan, working with the scientific Divisions to support on projects and initiatives, developing sustainability training/awareness and supporting Biodiversity Net Gain. 

 Key Responsibilities
  • Sustainability project support.
  • Contribute to reporting on sustainability metrics, projects and initiatives; including published annual report.
  • Support laboratory certification schemes LEAF, My Green Lab and GreenDisc.
  • Contribute to sustainability communications; presentations, intranet pages, ICR digital newsletters, etc.
  • Work with research Divisions to implement new sustainable procurement projects.
  • Support biodiversity projects and initiatives.
  • Build sustainability-based knowledge and share best practice, ideas and innovative approaches to sustainability.
About You

We are looking for a graduate in sustainability, life sciences with sustainability interest/experience or and environmentally certified professional. Working as an integrated member of the team, the individual will have a significant knowledge of sustainability and ideally experience of sustainability best practice in the higher education or life sciences sector.

  • Recent sustainability or life science graduate with sustainability knowledge/experience or environmental qualification.
  • Familiarity with Life Cycle thinking and Circular Economy concepts.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation.
  • Basic level of climate literacy, including knowledge of carbon foot printing and GHG protocol.
  • Environmental sustainability best practice.
  • Experience of LEAF, My Green Lab and GreenDisc.
  • Understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.

    Department/Directorate Information

    Sustainability, Health and Safety Team (SHS). The role of the SHS Team is to integrate health, safety and environmental protection into all ICR activities. This includes taking a pragmatic and proportional approach to risk management and the analysis, reporting and reduction of the environmental impacts associated with scientific research at the ICR.

    Sustainability specific activities include:
    - Management of environmental standards and certification (ISO 14001, Leaf, My Green Lab, GreenDisc).
    - Management and continual review of Sustainable Discoveries Action Plan.
    - Analysis and annual reporting of the ICR's environmental footprint.
    - Working with the scientific Divisions to devise and implement sustainability projects and initiatives.
    - Provision of sustainability training and awareness.
