Job Details

The Cancer Research UK funded Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit at The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR-CTSU) is expanding its statistical and methodology team.

We want to hear from you if you:

  • Enjoy the challenge of researching, developing, and implementing efficient trial methodology that would make a difference in patients’ lives.
  • Seek variety in your work and opportunities to apply your statistical knowledge across multiple therapeutic areas in oncology.
  • Thrive on being part of a multi-disciplinary research team with like-minded statisticians.

Applications are now open for a Trials Methodologist position to join our team of over 20 statisticians. The post offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and well-motivated statistician to work in a dynamic and supportive academic environment at a leading cancer clinical trials unit. The post-holder will develop and apply innovative trial methodology, with a focus on early phase and adaptive oncology trials, including work involving patient-reported outcomes (PROs). A core part of the role is to translate methods into usable tools by building and releasing a publication-ready R Shiny application and other reusable software outputs (e.g. an R package and/or reproducible analysis templates) to support wider dissemination and uptake. The post-holder will also provide statistical input to the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of ongoing and new clinical trials within the ICR-CTSU portfolio, working closely with the Drug Development Unit and external collaborators.

Key Requirements

We are looking for a motivated statistician/methodologist who enjoys both methodological research and applied trial work, with experience in patient-reported outcomes (PRO) research, and who can deliver high-quality, user-facing outputs (e.g. R Shiny/web applications, reproducible analytical code and documentation). The post-holder will work collaboratively across disciplines and communicate clearly with clinicians, trial teams and external partners.

Department/Directorate Information

ICR-CTSU manages an exciting portfolio of national and international phase II and III clinical trials and an expanding number of early phase I/II cancer trials. You will be based in the ICR-CTSU Early Phase and Adaptive Trials group led by Professor Christina Yap and will contribute to the development of methodological innovations and implementation of efficient methods across new and ongoing trials, with a particular focus in early phase and adaptive designs.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team on trials methodology research, contributing to the statistical development, oversight, and analysis of a range of clinical trials within ICR-CTSU’s portfolio.

We encourage all applicants to access the job pack attached for more detailed information regarding this role.

This is an office based role.  Requests for hybrid working (splitting time between our Sutton site and home) may be considered following successful completion of key training and if the role allows. Flexible working options may be considered.

For general queries about the recruitment process, please contact ICR-CTSU, email: [email protected].
