Key Information

Salary: £31,445 to £36,410. Commencement on the salary range is subject to comparable skills and experience. Future progression is based on annual performance review.
Reporting to: Bethany Torr, Scientific Programme Manager 
Duration of ContractFixed Term for 12 months, in the first instance.
Hours per week: 35 hours per week (Full Time). Part time will be considered.

Job Details

We are seeking to appoint a Research Administrator to join the Translational Genetics Team (ICR)/Cancer Genetics Unit (RMH), under leadership of Prof Clare Turnbull. This position would suit someone with an interest in cancer and/or genetics clinical research, who wants to be involved with delivery of patient care within the NHS. 

The team are coordinating a new clinical transformational programme, via the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, which involve implementation and evaluation of retrospective genetic testing for  people historically diagnosed with breast and/or ovarian cancer.

The post-holder will work with closely with the Research Genetic Counsellor and Nurse within the team, as well as clinical genetics and laboratory colleagues, to support day-to-day running of the programme, including management of patient records and samples, data collection, and provision of administrative support to patients via a telephone hotline or email. The post holder will also have the opportunity to provide general support to team members and external collaborators involved in a variety of research projects. 

Key Requirements

The successful candidate must have excellent attention-to-detail and organisational skills, with a degree in a relevant subject. Prior experience of cancer/genetics research and/or NHS administration will be beneficial. 

This role involves working directly with patients. The successful candidate must therefore demonstrate the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, and be able to maintain confidentiality.

The post will be situated in the Translational Genetics team (team lead: Prof Clare Turnbull), which consists of both clinically-focussed translational research and analytical/bioinformatics research.

Professor Turnbull leads on two large Cancer Research UK grants, BRCA-DIRECT (https://www.brca-direct.org/) and CanGene-CanVar (http://cangene-canvaruk.org/), and undertakes a range of clinically-focused translational research work on susceptibility, somatic and functional cancer genomics.
